MAD WITH POWER 2024 - Day 2: Bonus Replay, Player Shoots Again!
August 6, 2024, 3 months ago
Second day of video game infused metal madness, in Madison, WI. First up, the dual vocal Celestial Wizard, from Colorado, including a revved up rendition of Rainbow's "Kill The King". The trio known as Lame Genie performed an all-instrumental set of music from video games, as selected by the crowd, on the spot.
A video screen played snippets of the chosen game action. The high energy power metal of the six-piece Glyph (two guitars, plus keytar) was a pleasant revelation, thanks in part to the vocals of Barbara Blackthorne (of Philly's Empress). More mysterious neon visors, for Magic Sword, in near darkness, no vocals, just guitar, synthesizer and drums.
Lords Of The Trident are locals and play every year (frontman Ty Christian, aka Fang Von Wrathenstein is the festival's organizer). Plenty of props and confetti during a fun set. Arriving earlier that day, old school Japanese rockers Anthem were back in the States, for the first time in 30 years, running through a set that touched on the intervening years as well as four off last year's stellar Crimson & Jet Black.
A full report will be posted soon. Until then, here's a glimpse of Saturday's adventures.
