Former QUEENSRŸCHE Singer GEOFF TATE On IRON MAIDEN Drummer NICKO McBRAIN Retiring - "I Don't Blame Him, It Must Be HELL Playing That Music Every Day"; Video
December 27, 2024, 16 hours ago
Geoff Tate joins Ralph Sutton and Dov Davidoff, and they discuss starting to make wine at 14 years old for a merit badge, the origin of the band name Queensrÿche, Geoff's love of travel and how he turned it into Back Stage Pass Travel, Silent Lucidity almost not making the album, maintaining his voice, being married for over 30 years, Tate journaling over the years and not being sure what to do with all the material, how chia seeds almost killed Geoff and also saved his life, the legacy of Queensrÿche and the dissipating of the band in 2012, Tate's first concert, first drug and first sexual experience.
On starting to write original music at age nine: “I couldn’t get away from it. I was playing original material at that age, and my mom was saying: 'No! You need to play what’s written!'”
On the name Queensrÿche: “That’s kind of a funny song. Management told us we could no longer call ourselves “The Mob” (their former name) because someone owned it, and we’d have to change it. Monday, Chris (DeGarmo) comes to rehearsal, and it was his idea. He says look, you know the song we have, Queen of the Reich? We take Queen we add an s and Reich: Queensrÿche. What do you think and we all said fine that'll do.”
