GOREFEST guitarist Boudewijn Bonebakker has issued the following studio update:

"Today I had another full workday at the studio giving me the chance to finish a very lengthy one (S5) and a fast old-school stomper (GF6) and to do some extras. Yesterday I did three songs (GF7, S1 and S4) so there's one more song for me left to do rhythm guitars on. The work title on that one is Zeeman, a classic death metal track which sounds like a violent sea storm.

So far we only used Les Pauls cos of the rich and luscious sound they give. But today we got the V out of its case and found that it gives very good definition on the doubled tracks.

Those doubled tracks we do on the Mesa Rectifier. With that amp we get a sound that provides for a nice and thick rumble in the bottom as well as a good part of the definition. The settings on that amp I have to check next time I'm in the studio (I get a headache looking at all the knobs on that amp to be honest) but I know we use the orange channel with low gain setting (between 3 and 4). The gainy side of the sound is done with the trusted 50 watts 'Accept' Marshall 1989#. We used a setting on that one that I normally have (bass 10, mid 10, high 0) except for the presence which is set to 6 and gives a nice harsh and glassy edge to the sound. Actually, the sound we get from the combination of the two is pretty similar to what we have live on stage with Frank and myself playing together. Only now both of us get to play and our own and each others sound. So for those who lost it by now: both guitarists double their rhythm parts, one part Marshall and one part Mesa.

Next week Monday Frank will pick up on the rhythming again and I reckon we both will be done by Tuesday. After that the twinning and the soloing will start as well as the odd bit's and ends (even a bit of clean chord finger picking) for which we by then have a good one and a half week, which seems pretty luxurious.

In that same period the real thunder will be added to our songs by JC and his SVTclassic."

Stay tuned for more updates.
