It has been said that had Marc Bolan and Joe Strummer conceived a child together, it might have sounded a little like Chinese Missy; a rock n’ roll band from North London who aim to move both your feet and mind. It consists of Bello Ingram (guitar and vocals), Tommy L’heart (bass and vocals), Richard Bond, Institute Alumni (guitar and vocals) and Tom Moore, current Institute degree student (drums).

In the short time that the band has been together, Chinese Missy has had many highlights. Supporting Tribes, performing at Green Man Festival in 2013 and a residency at the well-established Notting Hill Arts Club night, Death2Disco to name but a few. Recently, Chinese Missy won itself a spot to play at Download Festival, through a competition run by Red Bull Studios London.

The competition consisted of three rounds. The first round narrowed the finalists down to 100 bands from over 400 entries, through three weeks of public voting. The second round was decided by a panel of judges including Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), Katie P (Kerrang), Angie Somerside (Red Bull Records) and band Don Broco, who picked a shortlist of 15 bands. These 15 bands were invited to Red Bull Studios in London for a day to record a live track (mixed by Romesh Dodangoda - Motorhead, Funeral For A Friend) and accompanying promotional video interview. Press shots and media training were also completed by each act. These videos then went live again for a final week of public voting, and each band spent many a long night stuck in front of their computer screens spreading the word. The top 6 bands with the most votes secured a place at Download whilst the judges picked their two favourite bands as wild cards who also received a spot at the festival. Chinese Missy was picked as one of the two wild cards. They took to the Red Bull Studios Live Stage and smashed it!

After Download Festival, Chinese Missy released their debut single, "Kickin’ About", on June 23rd (available on iTunes and other digital retailers.) This was produced and recorded by Mike Spink (The 1975, Jake Bugg) at Livingstone Studios in London (The Clash, Muse) and has already received radio play on BBC Introducing West. The official release show was held on Wednesday, June 25th at The Macbeth in Hoxton, in conjunction with Death2Disco.
