Bravewords.com corespondent Deb Rao recently caught up with SCARLET HAZE vocalist Kat Perkins. Check out the interview below.

Bravewords.com: The new Scarlet Haze single 'Reach Down' is slated to impact radio on January 11th. The song contains a very impressive guest line-up including Bumblefoot from GUNS N' ROSES and drummer IIan Rubin from NINE INCH NAILS. How did this all come to fruition?

Kat: "I am honored to have such an impressive guest line-up. Both Ron and Ilan are very good friends with my A&R; guy at the label. When they were introduced to Scarlet Haze after I was signed, they both felt compelled and were delighted to help me out by adding their expertise to my music."

Bravewords.com: What was it like working in the studio with these legendary musicians?

Kat: "Both Ron and Ilan are pros, through and through. They define the word professional. It's actually a bit intimidating, to be honest, because they are so talented and spot on. They bring the heat to the studio and pushed me to always be on my A game."

Bravewords.com: Would you say that rock and roll is all about the total package? I read in your press release that you said,"Rock N' Roll is supposed to be dangerous."

Kat: "I absolutely think that rock and roll is about the total package. For women artists, that statement probably has even more truth to it. I think it’s very important that women in rock are able to sing and look great doing it. When any artist brings the total package to the table, it immediately sets them apart. As far as the dangerous element, I'm a huge fan. Danger is interesting whether it be in something like a fashion choice or in something like the subject / content of a song. I believe this is part of why rock and roll is here to stay. Human beings are attracted to danger."

Bravewords.com: Tell us about the song writing process on One Bad Bitch.

Kat: "Actually, we are still in the final stages of the writing as we finalize our song line-up and final tracking to the album! For me, this album has been very interesting to write. Some of the ideas for the material were conceptualized about a year ago, and some of it was conceptualized very recently. I had, and still have a team of writers in the midwest that I wrote most of the album with. The three of us not only make a great writing team, but we have fun doing it as well. We also have a few 'outside' writers appearing on this album as well. I'm delighted to have a 'well-rounded' cast of writers and musicians that make up this album."

Bravewords.com: You have a very interesting rise to fame story. I read that you won a battle of the bands in the mid-west and had the opportunity to open for BON JOVI at the Target Center. Would you like to share your breakthrough story with us?

Kat: "I will never forget that day for as long as I live. We were a very young band. We had only been together for 11 months and I had this hair-brained idea to enter this battle of the bands to open up for Bon Jovi at a sold out show. My band thought I was a little crazy since we didn't have much material, let alone experience, but I was determined to give it a shot. It was the perfect scenario. All we had to do was submit a promo pack of pictures and few songs. If we were picked as one of three finalists, we would go up on an online vote through a local radio station. As fate would have it, we were chosen as a finalist. Voting ensued for one week and the winner had two days to prepare for the arena show We worked our tail off getting people to vote (mind you this was before a lot of the social networking days). In the end, we won by a landslide in the voting process. We had a strong sound, and a very unique and put together look. We were privileged enough to open up for 20,000 people in an arena DIRECTLY before Bon Jovi. It changed my life as I knew it! The members of Bon Jovi were very supportive and they were extremely genuine people. All of our families came out to support as well. I will never forget seeing my adorable mother in the 11th row jumping and fist pumping as we played our set!"

Bravewords.com: The '80s had so many great female artists. Recently, you had the opportunity to perform with so many influential 80'a artists such as BRET MICHAELS, Bon Jovi and VINCE NEIL. The '80s were a time that stage shows were so elaborate. Are you hoping to bring the total package, including visual stage show on your upcoming tour?

Kat: "It's ALWAYS been very important to me to strive to be the 'total package' kind of performer. That is the kind of artists I grew up with and that is the kind of artists that I've been influenced by my whole life. I'm very proud to feel like I bring an exciting stage show to the table. High energy, power vocals, and fun sexual energy are all things you can expect from me at a live performance".

Bravewords.com: As a female recording artist in the music industry, what do you hope to bring to the plate that sets Scarlet Haze apart from many of the new bands on the rise in the industry today?

Kat: "I feel like I bring many exciting aspects to the plate including a no holds barred attitude. I bring a ton of performing experience to the table right off the bat. Scarlet Haze will continue to run the whole spectrum of emotions to the live show; danger, fun, party attitude, riveting vocals - just to name a few. I feel like I can connect with an audience both in a live show and through my writing, and they can truly feel that. I also bring a genuine personality that undeniably loves what I was set on this earth to do: perform, write, and entertain."

Bravewords.com: Any closing thoughts on your new single, 'Reach Down'?"

Kat: "I hope everyone takes the time to check out my single and the mind-blowing guitar talent by Mr. Ron Thal. This is just a sneak peek of what's to come on the full album! We hope to gain many more new lifelong fans!"
