With Rock Star: SUPERNOVA wrapping up this week, co-host DAVE NAVARRO will be focusing entirely on his new band, THE PANIC CHANNEL. Their debut album, (ONe) was released August 15th.

Prior to gaining fame through reality television, Navarro solidified his reputation as guitarist for JANE'S ADDICTION and RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS. However in both those bands, he was the sole six-stringer. With The Panic Channel, for the first time in his career, Dave is performing with a lead singer, Steve Isaacs, who also plays guitar. Navarro elaborates on the difference this makes.

“Going in the studio is a lot more fun because I don’t have to create the canvas anymore. I feel like (drummer, Stephen) Perkins, (bassist, Chris) Chaney and (vocalist, Steve) Isaccs kind of create the canvas in the recording process and I get to do all the fun stuff. It really becomes more about effects and parts. In a live scenario, it opens up a lot of room for me. I’d never really been in a situation where I could play a piece of a solo, stop playing, have a few drags off a smoke, and then start playing again because the entire bottom would fall out if I stopped playing. But these guys have it locked down, so it opens up a tremendous amount of freedom for me as a player. I think as a result of it, some of my solos on this record are more melodic and more memorable. There’s some moments where I’m just jamming and then there’s moments where it’s kind of a written part.”

As previously reported, The Panic Channel will be opening for Supernova on their North American tour in January and February. Prior to that, TPC will embark on a smaller tour of their own.
