Sanctuary Records have issued the following press release in regards to GUN N’ ROSES bassist TOMMY STINSON’s forthcoming solo album, Village Gorilla Head:

Young talent has a funny way of going astray. Not so with Tommy Stinson. The boy who, at the age of 13, was a founding member of THE REPLACEMENTS, has grown up and his music has followed suit.

Since the demise of The Replacements in 1991 (at the ripe old age of 24), Stinson has been a perpetual band member. He formed two of his own, BASH AND POP and PERFECT, and, since 1997, has played bass for Guns N' Roses. So we know he's a team player but is he a solo artist?

No. He's not simply a solo artist, he's a one-man band! On Village Gorilla Head, Stinson takes charge, singing lead and backing vocals while playing bass, six string guitar, some keyboards and even the drum kit on one track! Having run out of appendages, presumably, Stinson has called on the help of bandmates past and present, including Gersh, (Bash And Pop, Perfect), David Phillips (Perfect), Dizzy Reed and Richard Fortus (GN'R), to fill in the gaps, along with many other names-you'll-know (read those liner notes!). So, yeah, the music is stellar but does he have anything to say?

Absolutely! Village Gorilla Head is a veritable walk through the history of rock. Is that the superior sneer of Bob Dylan on ‘Bite Your Tongue’, the jangly guitar of George Harrison on ‘Hey You’? Through the smoke and haze of rockers like ‘Motivation’, ‘OK’ and ‘Couldn't Wait’ one can

almost see CHEAP TRICK, SQUEEZE, THE CLASH and, of course, The Replacements. The result is not the chaotic cacophony that one might expect from such an effort but, rather, a cohesive autobiography of a young man who has dedicated a quarter century to creating, sustaining and, now, invigorating a musical movement.

As previously reported, Village Gorilla Head is being released on Sanctuary Records on July 27th.

Before going out with THE FIGGS for two weeks on August 4th, Tommy will be doing a couple promotional shows, one in Minneapolis around July 26th the other in N.Y.C. around July 29th.
