INCANTATION - Entrantment Of Evil

Not enchantment, not entrapment, but entrantment, a word you or I only know from this Incantation EP, originally released back in 1990 on 7" on Seraphic Decay, reissued in 1991 on Relapse as a 7", and now available as a 12" for the first time. So those of us who like their death metal delivered in that way that only Incantation can (grimy, murky, chilling) get a bonus song (watch out: the recording quality dips drastically for this one) and an etched B-side, but the main attraction here is that this is the only Incantation release featuring Mortician's Will Rahmer behind the mic.

Now, as any extreme metal fan knows, that band deals in sub-bass sounds that push the limits of extremity, so his "vocal" "style" fits Incantation's horrid death wonderfully, especially considering the fact that back in 1990, the band's death was a more primitive beast. So while I prefer what they did a bit later (more personality, and more power), this early material gets the edge in pure brutality. Add in Rahmer's insane-Cookie-Monster vox and, yeah, sign me up with the rest of the longhairs to find out exactly what is etched on side B of this cool little reissue.
