CANNIBAL CORPSE frontman George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher spoke to BW&BK; recently about a number of topics including the band's elevated positioning in the metal world - their path of destruction continues to span wider and wider.
"It's weird now cause some people are calling us legends and forefathers and that's very flattering," Fisher responds. "I turned 37 this past year and I'm the youngest guy in the band. So when we heard 'legends' and 'forefathers', it's like, 'do you want to give us some canes (laughs).' But it's very flattering for people to say that about all of us when there are a lot of other bands out there who are just as deserving and have been around just as long as us. One band that comes to mind is Immolation. They are one of the greatest death metal bands ever. Getting back to the original point, we want to do more. We aren't done yet. We are gonna do a new album this year. Hopefully the buzz that Kill created is still there and the record is highly anticipated and it puts pressure on us. I think that it's a good thing. I think that's the beauty of metal - you start out in the garage, you are jamming and creating. RUSH and their song 'Limelight' - it has the best lyrics in the world; 'Those who wish to be, must put aside the alienation, get on with the fascination, the real relation, the underlying theme.' I always use the Rush analogy. I always go back to (drummer) Neil Peart's lyrics - it says it all.
