JEFF SCOTT SOTO - "I Didn't Want To Go Down In History As This Metal Screamer... I Wanted To Be As Well Rounded As FREDDIE MERCURY"

In an interview with Photogroupie.com, hard rock vocalist Jeff Scott Soto talked about his distinctive vocal style. Having started with top 40 rock covers bands after high school, to working with Yngwie Malmsteen at the age of 18, Jeff was always mindful that he didn't want to be a “one-trick pony”.

Having appeared on an astonishing 85 albums over his career, Jeff revealed that he "didn't want to go down in history as this metal screamer... I wanted to be as well rounded as Freddie..." Using Freddie Mercury and Queen as his benchmark for vocal versatility, Jeff talked about how diversity in his career is important.

Speaking about his solo career Jeff says, “I don't like repeating myself and doing things I've already done.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jeff also talks about why leaving Journey was a positive step and why his work with Sons of Apollo still challenges his creativity.
